What is Lipedema?
Lipedema (lipoedema) is a chronic disease in which pathological fibrotic fat grows and accumulates in the hip, legs, and arms. Lipedema fat is different from normal fat in that it causes extreme pain, tenderness, and easy bruising. Often referred to as painful fat syndrome, lipedema is a connective tissue disorder that excusively affects women and usually manifests bilaterally, with both extremities involved. In the United States, lipedema is often misdiagnosed as obesity. Patients are told to diet and lose weight. This is frustrating for the lipedema patient because lipedema fat is resistant to dieting and exercise.
Although there is no known cure for lipedema, the current surgical treatment option is lymph sparring liposuction to debulk the limbs. Harmony Lymphatics assists in the recovery by offering customized in-home manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) for those who have undergone liposuction surgery. A certified MLD therapist will travel to your home with all the necessary treatment supplies to provide a relaxing lymphatic drainage massage at the comfort of your home, recovery hotel, or air BnB. Post surgical home visits are available in the Los Angeles, Ca area.
